Calibration and Certification
Calibration is the set of operations that establish, under specified conditions, the relationship between the values
of quantities indicated by a measuring instrument and the corresponding values realized by standards. International Vocabulary
of Metrology (VIM) The result of a calibration permits either the assignment of values of measurands to the indications or
the determination of corrections with respect to indications.
The result of a calibration may be recorded in a document, sometimes called a calibration certificate or
a calibration report. A measuring instrument can be calibrated by comparison with a known standard. An adjustment of the instrument is often carried out after calibration in order that it
provides given indications corresponding to given values of the quantity measured.
PTC Metrology™ is Accredited by A2LA to
ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 for durometer calibration. NIST traceable certification is available for any durometer type covered by current ASTM D2440, ASTM F1957, ISO 868, ISO 7619, or DIN 53505 standards. The Calibration Report includes both "as received" and "as left" data on the force curve measurement. Durometer calibration includes: indenter geometry and extension, indicator linearity from 0 to 100, and mainspring force. Other durometer types, custom models, and durometers of any manufacture can also be certified by PTC Metrology™.
