Tech Notes:
The combination of specific spring forces and indentor configurations, provide the various durometer hardness scales, e.g., A, B, C, D, DO, E, O, OO and OOO. The scales are properly referred to as durometer type, i.e. a durometer type is specifically designed to determine a specific scale, and the scale does not exist separately from the durometer.
Durometer hardness is dependent on the elastic modulus and viscoelastic behavior of the material being tested.
-
1kg weight applies to ASTM Type A, B, E and O
-
5 kg weight applies to ASTM Type C, D and DO.
-
400 gram weight applies to ASTM Type OO, OOO or PTC Type SL.
-
Constaloader® Stands ( pneumatic dampening) are available
for any model ASTM Type A, B, E or O.
-
Type R is a designation, rather than a type. The "R" designation specifies a presser foot or base diameter of 18 ± 0.5mm (0.71 ± 0.002 in.)
