How it all works
A timing bridge sits above the track over the Start / Finish line.
On the bottom of the bridge are sensors pointing down at the track.
The decoder, the "brains" of the system, attaches to the side of the
bridge and connects to a computer running your choice of the many race
management softwares available.
Each car is fitted with a small, lightweight transponder that is
powered by the receiver.
While racing, as each cars passes under the bridge, the transponder is
detected and the decoder tells the computer which cars went by and
timestamps it with the exact time of the lap. All the cars in a race
can be detected simultaneously.
AMB transponders will not work with our system and our transponders will not work with an AMB.
Check out these racing software programs. All of them work well with I-LapRC:
Alycat - Has
synthesized voice announcements, points series, html output, database
and more!
Laps Free - A
great full-feature free program worth checking out. The most popular by
far.
RC
Scoring Pro - A free 5 car per heat I-Lap version ships with each system!

Pricing:
Decoder - $140 (Includes all cables)
Bridge Sensor - $40 each (Each covers 14.5" width)
Transponders - $38 - Each has a unique ID number
Transponder 10-Pack - $350 - Save $30
US Shipping - $8
Outside the US is typically around $40 for trackable global express.
Each system will need 1 decoder, enough bridge sensors to cover the finish line and one transponder for each car in the race. Each transponder can be set as house transponders or personal transponders in the software.
Each bridge sensors covers 14.5 inches of the track lane width. For example, if the track is 10 feet wide, 8 sensors will be needed. Simply divide the total width in inches by 14.5 to get the number of sensors needed. Generally speaking, it is OK to go a little over. A 4 foot (48 inch) lane calculates to 3.3 sensors, but 3 will cover it sufficiently.
The number of bridge sensors needed is only determined by the width of the lane, and it does not matter how many transponders are used.
Customer experiences(More coming soon)
This is from the gentleman who owns the off-road
track pictured on this page below and on the videos page.
The program he is refering to is Laps Free.
I just thought I would say a little something about Racing with the
Lap-Counter
My name is Russell, I live in New Jersey,Me and a few friends thought
it would be cool to
build a racetrack in my backyard,So we did, an 1/8 mile later we have a
nice track.
After racing on the track we had problems figuring out who really won.I
went to the search
engine and typed lap-counter and bang there it was, something that will
keep track of the cars.
So we purchased the Lap-counter system and wow!! what a difference it
made in the racing world.
Now we can see who had the fastest lap or who was a lap or so down, and
now its all about who can break the track record of 25+ seconds lol!!
The program does a number of different things to keep track of your
racing
We run 3 different size cars, some have the Transponders inside the car
looking out the windshield and others just sitting at the base of the
windshield on the hood, Either way, the eye can see, and the car is
counted as it passes under the bridge sensor.
I'm not all that good working with computers, but man! Ill tell you I
had no problems with the software
or hooking up the Lap-counter it was easy to install and it makes the
racing so much more fun
No crying -- the Truth is on the screen
Wanna Race??
Russ
Hello,
I have an 1/18th scale super off-road track in my backyard.
I searched Google for lap counting systems for R/C cars and found the
rclapcounter.com,
which I purchased on May 5th, 2006.
INFRA-RED transponders, smaller than a quarter, fits easily into the
cars and plugs right into the stock receiver for power.
A Start/Finish bridge with INFRA-RED Beam detectors give
down to the hundreth (.01) second lap times. Up to TEN cars can race
during same heat.
Beeps every time a car passes under the bridge so no confusion your car
made the lap.
While racing, the program announces the current positions
half-way through the race.
THE SYSTEM IS THE BEST I'VE EVER USED!!!
IT'S EXACTLY WHAT THE PROS USE AND I COULD AFFORD IT FOR MY
BACKYARD!!
I've been racing with 8-10 of my friends consistently here in
happy Huntington Beach, CA since the day I purchased the
rclapcounter.com and all of us have been nothing less than STOKED!!
R/C racing is so much more fun when there's an automatic lap
counting /timing system.
I highly recommend the rclapcounter.com system.
I don't have any pictures because no one wants to sit out of any
races to take photos.
And to top it all off, Craig (the creator) is extremely helpful and
eager to get your R/C racing underway.
Sincerely
Scott Bumgarner

Craig, the system works flawlessly! We ran
several heats and mains with 3 to 6 drivers per (Micro’s) and the
system counted every lap without fail. One car even mounted the
transponder inside with dark tinted windows and it still performed
perfectly. Our store also gets a great deal of direct sunlight on
the track and the system still does not miss a lap. Great system!
I have attached a couple images from my cell phone of the timing
bridge. I will take better shots soon.
Thanks again!

My name is Dana Sceerey and I own a radio control racing system that
I use for business purposes.
It has been my desire to own a lapcounter but cost has always
stopped me from pursuing this option; until now! I recently purchased a
hardware/software lap counter detector system from Craig and am
extremely excited with the capabilities and price of this package. The
setup was fairly straight forward with Craigs assistance even though I
lacked computer skills. In less than a few hours I had my cars hooked
up and running with impressive results. I would recommend this system
to anyone looking for an affordable system from hobbiests to
professionals.
