Type B: for rubber and elastomers

The ultimate durometer for accurate hand held hardness measurements of rubber, elastomers, and other rubber like substances such as neoprene, silicone, vinyl, nitrile, and butyl. PTC's Model 501B has a rubber grip and a 1.25" (3.2cm) diameter presser foot for increased stability and maximum repeatability. The PTC® Analog Style Durometer is built to meet or exceed current ASTM D2240 specifications for Type B durometers. 

The instrument uses a dial gauge with a full 360 degree scale and bold, easy to read numbers. The dial scale can easily be read to 0.2 point resolution. A standard maximum reading hand holds the peak reading until reset. The dial has a red zone to indicate unreliable readings.

PTC Metrology is Accredited by A2LA to ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 for durometer calibration. NIST traceable certification is available for any durometer type covered by current ASTM D2440, ASTM F1957, ISO 868, ISO 7619, or DIN 53505 standards. The Calibration Report will include both "as received" and "as left" data on the force curve measurement. Durometer calibration includes: indenter geometry and extension, indicator linearity from 0 to 100, and mainspring force. Other durometer types, custom models, and durometers of any manufacture can also be certified by PTC Metrology.
