PTC® is the World Leader in Surface ThermometersAccredited by A2LA to ISO/IEC17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 Cert No. 1896.01 SURFACE THERMOMETER FAQ SHEET The PTC® bimetal surface thermometers are designed and calibrated to measure the surface temperature of solid objects. They use a bimetal sensing element and the temperature is read from a dial. They are available in a wide variety of ranges from -100° F to 750 °F ( -70°C to 400°C ) dual magnet, 4 magnet, max hand, tab mount and many more configurations. Manufactured in the
Surface thermometers should be used any time the surface temperature of a solid object is needed. Examples of items which are easily measured with surface thermometers are cooking surfaces, pipes, machinery, metals prior to welding, rail, ship bulkheads, tanks and almost any other solid object.
Surface thermometers easily and accurately measure surface temperatures. Stem and liquid in glass thermometers are designed and calibrated to be immersed in the liquid or gas they are measuring and hence they are not suitable to be used to measure surface temperatures.
PTC Metrology® provides calibration and certification services for our bimetal surface thermometers and other surface measuring instruments. Many quality systems require that certified thermometers be used where precise measurements are of critical importance. PTC has always offered temperature calibration and certification traceable to NIST and was recently accredited by A2LA for temperature calibration. The scope of our accreditation can be down loaded by using the following link A2LA Accreditation Scope.
