Tech Note on ASTM Thermometers
PTC Metrology® will examine and calibrate your ASTM Thermometer against NIST traceable standards at temperature points specified by ASTM E1 Table 1. The thermometers will be calibrated at the specified temperature in accordance with Test Method E-77. PTC is accredited by A2LA to ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540-1. Selecting Temperature Points
To assist you in choosing test points, please refer to ASTM E-77 and NIST recommendations.
1. A minimum of three temperatures should be calibrated, generally low, medium and high on the scale.
2. There should be no more than 100 graduations between any two calibration temperatures. If a thermometer is calibrated every 100 divisions, the user may interpolate intermediary corrections with a precision of ± 1/2° scale division (ASTME-77) .
3. If the temperatures used by the manufacturer for scale placement are known, the temperatures used for calibration should correspond. This will assure linearity of spacing between the calibrated points, therefore allowing the user to interpolate intermediate values.
